Regarding to "How to import Japanese vehicles to the states",To
speak easily, U.S. Importation rules are regulated by EPA ,DOT, and CBR,
and All the imported cars from outside the u.s. inspected and checked the
vehicle year, and safety standards informations, and Emission testing documents
by DOT and EPA,. It means that All the vehicle will be imported into the United States of America passes EPA and DOT requirements before importation or after Legalizing procedures. Here are some examples order by the vehicle production year model: Regulated by EPA, Environmental Protection agency), They are mainly concentrating on Emission problems, so they say that, .........Vehicle over 21years old or more older: EPA doesn't require for the Emission testing document against the importers. .........Vehicle Younger than 21years Unfortunately All JDM cars is under the rule of EPA, So You need to import the car through by ICI dealer (Registered Importer) in the states, and the vehicle should be Legalized and registered by the R.I. following EPA, DOT rules. EPA require the Emission testing , and proof document which shows your car meet at EPA Emission status. **ICI...Independent Commercial Importers Registered and certigied by NHSTA, DOT. **R.I...Registered Importer, almost same as ICI. The only way you can import the target cars, You should import it through at R.I or You should collect all the documents which shows the car meet at EPA and DOT requirement factors. (Usualy You can't get the document by yourself, and All Makes, Toyota, Nissan, Mazda , Honda, etc doesn't give any document to individual custmers) Regulated by DOT, NHSTA, They are mainly concentrating on Safety Standards of the vehicle which will be imported from other conutries, .........Vehicle under 25years old, You need to import the car throught at R.I, and have to be legalized by R.I. or ICI. .........Vehicle produced after September 1973, 5mile bumper is needed for Passing the safety standards. .........Vehicle produced before September 1973, You don't need to have it be legalized through at R.I. and ICI, so You can import it freely, and registere the car as passenger vehicle legally at any states in the U.S.A. without any legalizaition procedures. Regarding to the Vintage DATSUN, NISSAN, TOYOTA, MAZDA, MITSUBISHI, all makes, If the target model would be over 30years old or more older, You can import, and register it as a Normal pasesnger vehicle without any legalizing procedures.... For more informations, Please study about the rules and the laws by yourself, and check all related webpages; EPA (The United states Environmental Protection Agency) http://www.epa.gov/otaq/imports/quikover.htm NHSTA, (National Highway Traffic Satefy Administration) http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import/ CBP (U.S. Customs and Border Protection) http://www.customs.ustreas.gov/xp/cgov/import/ NOTE: Regarding to the importation rules in details for the JDM car after 1973, Please ask the procedures of EPA, DOT, and CBR by yourself, and We can't give any further advice for you anymore. |
